Boliq for Home Assistant

See your Boliq bollards in Home Assistant and lower them, or raise them if you allow it, from your own dashboards and automations.

Home Assistant is software you run at home, for example on a Home Assistant Green or a Raspberry Pi. You need it set up already, with HACS installed. In Home Assistant each bollard shows as a gate: open means lowered and closed means raised. You also get whether it is online and, for battery bollards, its battery level.

1. Install the Boliq integration

  1. In Home Assistant open HACS, then the three dots menu at the top right, then Custom repositories.
  2. Repository: https://github.com/Boliqltd/boliq-home-assistant. Type: Integration. Press Add.
  3. Search HACS for Boliq, open it and press Download.
  4. Restart Home Assistant (Settings, the three dots menu, Restart Home Assistant).

2. Add the Boliq credentials

These tell Home Assistant it is talking to Boliq. They are the same for every Home Assistant user and do not give access to anyone's bollards on their own: you still sign in with your own Boliq login and choose your bollards in step 3.

Loading…

  1. In Home Assistant open Settings, Devices & services, the three dots menu at the top right, then Application credentials.
  2. Press Add application credential. Integration: Boliq. Name: Boliq. Paste the Client ID and Client Secret above, then press Add.

3. Connect your bollards

  1. In Settings, Devices & services, press Add integration and choose Boliq.
  2. The Connect to Boliq page opens. Sign in with your Boliq login, tick the bollards Home Assistant can use, tick Allow raising only if you want Home Assistant to raise them, and press Connect.
  3. You are taken back to Home Assistant through my.home-assistant.io. If it asks for your Home Assistant address the first time, enter the one you use to open Home Assistant.
Raising moves a bollard up. Only allow it if you are happy for your automations to do that when nobody is watching. Boliq bollards are access control, not crash rated barriers. A move is confirmed when the bollard next checks in with Boliq.

Changing or removing it

You can change which bollards Home Assistant can use, or disconnect it at once, in Connected apps in your Boliq account. If you disconnect it, Home Assistant asks you to sign in again.
